The Danger of Turning Back
Ruth 1:6-14
Focus on Orpah: She has two decisions – first decides to go with Naomi, then decides to go back.
This lesson will help you recognise the dangers of turning back in times of fear or hardship, identify the pressures and temptations you may face, and learn how to respond with faith, resilience, and wisdom – both for yourself and for others who may be struggling. A warning of the danger of turning back. Orpah is an example of someone who turns back. We want to understand the circumstances and reasons and thinking that prompted her to turn back (no hope, desolate). The reasons that made her go back were not spiritual – they were physical. What were the temptations you face to turn back? What were her emotions and fears etc. We want to formulate a way to avoid turning back. Also want to consider how we respond to those who turn back. Want the BMB to understand the dangers of turning back – to create resilience in facing adversity.
